Fisheries Conservation & Management
Shellfish remove algal cells before they build up to dangerous levels, helping to control dangerous algal blooms, like red tide. The environment is more suitable for eelgrass and other creatures that demand extremely clear water when the water quality is improved. Aquaculture of shellfish includes the growing of species including oysters, clams, and mussels. Since the time of the Ancient Romans, people have grown shellfish, and documents of this fact may be found. There are shellfish organizations.
